Still I keep it since it's so light and is great for use hiking and such. Mine has saw a lot of use but now mainly sits unused now that I've picked up a 800/5.6. I've been pretty impressed with this lens. Results are quite good considering how simple the lens is. Well I've been using a Leica R 560/6.8 for awhile now. He's convinced he needs between 500 and 600 and he's convinced he can get it for less that $700 (if the Mamiya pans out, he may be right). He mostly relies on Zeiss and a couple of Minolta standards he gleefully shaved his mirror to use. But except for the camera and a 480 EX, he eschews all things Canon (he snubbed borrowing my 200/2 and converters) and Nikon. Considering he has a 5DII they both are relatively inexpensive. I think the 400/5.6 or 300/4 IS+TC would be the best choice. Any other lenses you'd recommend over this one?ĥ00mm for the zoo? I mostly find my 300 way too long on 1.6 crop in zoos. Does anyone have any experience with the lens? He'd be using it on a 5DII, initially for zoo shots that won't tax the 9m MFD, all tripod mounted. I found some comments on recommending the lens, but no samples there or elsewhere on the net that I could find via multiple search engines. I'm trying to help a friend find an inexpensive super-tele and I stumbled across the Mamiya.
